Actually I've just reread it and to be honest I'm a little confused now... when I originally read it this morning while having my breakfast I interpreted it as being a general reference to the digital age that we live in today.

Now after reading it again this interpretation doesn't make sense in the context of the sentence. as the other references are indeed based on religion.

Any one else care to have a crack at it?.
