New Plastic Ideas by Unwound

Those are both the best entry points for a Sonic Youth fan. Sleater Kinney, I never really got into, even though I saw them play parties in Oly and stuff. I liked Heavens to Betsy and Excuse 17 both better than the group they evolved into.

My favorite Unwound album is the last one, Leaves Turn Inside You, but New Plastic Ideas is probably a better entry point (though arguably Fake Train really is so you can just retrace the whole history of the band after Sarah joined.)
