My Dad

February 13, 2007

Yesterday was my father's birthday. He would've been 75. Instead, he died from lung cancer five years ago. He had stopped smoking 35 years ealier, cold turkey.

My mother didn't stop smoking when he did. She didn't stop until soome thirty years later, when two heart valve replacements and a brush with lung cancer finally convinced her to stop...I think.

What's the point of this? There is no point. I just found myself yesterday, standing at his grave, crying...angry...pissed off.

I miss him...five years later. I still do. Nicky never knew him. Leila was less than three when he died, Courtney 14. And life rolls on.

Without sounding schmaltzy, if your dad is still around. Give him a call. Say "Hi". If you haven't talked for whatever reason...do it..before you can't and wish you had.

I loved him ,and he knew it. Just as I knew he loved me. And it still hurts like hell.

Until next time,
