in part yes, but also no.

liberalism itself ditched the poor somewhere in the 90s. like "new labor".

so nowadays "liberals" are more the middle class and educated with utopian visions for society.

this is how they can be identified with "elites".

this is why the breitbards can say "hollywood liberals" and talk about joss whedon calling trump's daughter a poodle (or whatever) and get away with gutting health insurance for small business and freelancers.

they scream "look at the elite guy" while they kill the poor.
