It was essentially a ruin until Hunchback of Notre Dame was published by Victor Hugo. Only then did Parisians seek to rebuild and restore the cathedral.
at least the people who were raped by priests and nuns and monks working at Notre Dame for the past 800 years can rejoice huh?
