there isn't a real way that you could NOT be self-obsessed because being yourself and living life through the limits and perspective of yourself is your only choice in life. Even if you give your life away because of beliefs you consider selfless, it's still yourself making that choice. I don't know how to explain myself well.
you'd have to be an animal without consciousness to not be self-obsessed, but still your instincts would mainly revolve around yourself, your survival and wellbeing.
however in this case her self-obsession is clearly destructive.
