i suppose its when you're first really exposed to her. the erotica period was when she started to get quite boring but remembering when she first hit the scene, so to speak, with those first few singles, she really was something else.
She sort of came along at the exact point where i really started getting quite seriously into pop music. to be honest, my real interest in SY was properly cemented when they did the Into the Groovy EP. I liked them prior to that, but when they did that record (and it obviously wasn't just some indie piss-take) I became really intrigued. certainly that was what separated them for me from bands like swans, who clearly would've never attempted such a thing - at least not in that spirit.
It's weird talking now about pop stars having this massive effect when the media today makes it so that everyone is sort of 'big' but noone is absolutely massive. Madonna and Michael Jackson in the 80s, it's hard to comprehend just how huge they were.
