I've heard many times that classical and jazz are the *only* real music.
An explanation I got, is that it's safer to theorise about dead people's music, cause they don't argue.
If a teacher claims to know all about The Beatles, he takes the risk to be contradict by Paul or Ringo: then he will have no argument whatsoever, to maintain his credibility and wages.
