there is a professor at my department tat teaches a course on the beatles every few years (he also teaches on wagner and some israeli pop composer). i have not tkane his course, but what i understood was that the beatles had incredibley obscure uses of functional harmony that they basically invented in the pop realm. so they defiantly are 'real' music or whatever that means. i meant they had some pretty obscure chords progressions.
and if you stufy haydn's music almost all of it is I IV V I the whole way through.
so im not sure what he means by real vs fake music.
i guess most of my professors dont like not "classical" period. a lot of people are like that. no biggie
