Over my Catholic childhood, I believe I was taught that it wasn't the Jews who killed Jesus as a people but that mankind as a whole (through the chosen people) condemned him. Admittedly my upbringing was a more liberal Catholicism but the crucifixion of Jesus took on the role of the original sin instead of the Fall of Man.
