Where I grew-up (York) there are always loads of American tourists, most of them very friendly and genuine, but a number of them walk around exaggerating their American accent and their American mannerisms, as if they're putting on a pantomime for
your benefit. It's weird.
I agree with davenotdead. Likewise when there is a thread on here along the lines of 'your favourite -whatever- groups?' and everyone just posts pictures of said groups rather than naming them. I rarely recognise the ones I'm familiar with, let alone the ones I'm not. There's something annoyingly supercilious about it, an implied 'are you cool enough to know these by sight'? After all it must take more effort than just typing the name.
