That was a hard one for me to deal with too, what to say when people offer condolences. I learned just to say thank you, and I realized they're doing it either because they genuinely feel sorry for me or they're simply uncomfortable and don't know what else to say. In either case, by simply saying "thank you" you relieve them and yourselves of any awkwardness.
