While I do have preferences, and consider whiskey to be probably my favorite alcoholic drink, I have a very hard time differentiating. I know whiskeys I like, and some I don't, but I can't really say why. It might be the circumstance, or just a general like/dislike. I dunno.
Green Label Jim Beam = shit. White/Black = amazing. No idea why.
