I thought it was excellent. It was realistic, disturbing and yet had a very good use of social commentary as well as sort of pointed injokes at fans of so-called "torture-porn." Stylistically, it's great. Wide shots, stationary cameras, no music create a realistic feel... then all the sudden the "fourth wall" is broken for a moment. (you'll see).
And all the acting was great (no surprises there, great cast). See it.

Like I said before, the new version should be avoided at all costs. The cast in the original nail it.
Haneke's films are all good in my opinion. Benny's Video is another must see.
