I did ecstacy in the '80s before you could even get it in a tablet and it was so fucking powerful it was amazing. It literally made you want to hug inanimate objects. So, I'd say "trip" was a reasonable term.
I tried it again about 3 times in the '90s, including at a rave, and it was total shit. I looked at the kids thinking they were getting off on it and almost laughed. It was like cold medicine, only it didn't clear your sinuses particularly.
