It's a testament to the Stooges' talent that the songs shine through almost in spite of the production. Their most recent album sure sucked, but it was mainly because of the poor quality of songwriting, methinks. The Albini production job on that was atrocious, nevertheless.

Agree about the poor songwriting. but I mostly put that down to Iggy. The
music was fine, but Iggy and Albini fucked things up royally.
The Weirdness is a sort of decent album struggling to escape the clutches of Iggy and Albini's combined egos. I bet Asheton was fucking livid with the results. He's great on it.
