i was incredibly disappointed when SYR3 came out and there were no hints of 'songs'. i grew to really love it after a while and now i think it's a really terrifying set of recordings and a very powerful release. a good way to introduce jim. this was between SYR2 and 'a thousand leaves', release date-wise, so at the time i expected a continuation of SYR2 and its relation to the forthcoming LP.

anyway!

4 is great if you love SY's ultra noise side, some really great, dynamic recordings (SYR3 is equally as dynamic, tons of space and loud and quiet, beautiful stuff). some unlistenable concept stuff (which is cool in its own right), but lots of great SY+friends insanity.
