first of all, there's the records, second, video evidense; it's not like there's absolutely no trace to know what a band sounded and their energy, etc. like when they were originally together.
i saw a video of the pixies reunion and i'm very glad they cancelled their show here because, honestly, it made me question if i liked the pixies in the first place, the only two songs they played like they were really a band again were "monkey gone to heaven" and "gigantic". they wer embarrasing.
still, most if not all reunions are nostalgic even for people who were not around to see them in the first time, so most people are predisposed to get their mind blown by them, even if they are not all that. unless the people in the band can't move and barely remember to play their songs, then most people willingly going to a reunion show are going to get back with glowing memories of it being epoch-changing when it would be just another show in other circumstances.

I haven't seen the reunited Mission of Burma, but based on The Obliterrati and ONOFFON, I'd say they are something more than a glorified cover band.

heard but albums and think they are very meh; then again, i'm not sure where i stand with burma.

Why did people like me make you hate Pavement?
What kind of person am I? I'd like to know. I don't think they are the best band ever, nor do I think that everyone has to like them. My responses to Cantankerous are driven by her attitude, not her opinions.

well, you certainly make people feel like they should love pavement, i grew up with spin and all the "alternative" media telling me every month that i should love the ground stephen malkmus walked, for whatever reasons. i was dead set in not listening to them.
at least that's what you reminded me.of.

I think Blink 182 is a god-awful band, but if some people who liked them were talking about them possibly getting back together, I wouldn't say "please God no, I hate them with every fibre of my being." That's called being a pretentious cunt.

no, that's having an opinion, that's what we do every day at the board "gee, i love this band" "fuck it, i hate them". click on most every band thread and you're bound to find someone who says they don't like a certain band, which is ok; we can't all like everything.

Also, why does a reunited band have to be exactly the same?

definitely agreed, but at least i expect them to play it like they mean it and not just go through the motions, just do a their job for the money when you just know that once, they were so much more.
