I've lucked out in that my closest friend (who I met when I was 22) has changed and mutated along a similar path to mine. Overall, I would say that I am more socially active now than at any other time in my life, but it is all within a fairly insular music crowd. And I don't have any kids.
I don't know if I could be friends with any of my highschool friends now (aside from my wife of course).
Maybe one, but I haven't talked to him in years.
And yes, my geographical steadiness sure has helped a lot. If I moved I think it would be pretty tough, because I don't usually talk to people I on't know.
