i used to have a black cat ring modulator which was advertised as a reproduction of the maestro - although lee said it isn't close.
it makes a wide variety of bizzare un-guitarlike sounds. for example - the bells at the end of master dik - that is a osund i could easily make with the ring modulator and i bet that's what lee used.
after i played with it a few times i grew bored and found little use for it so isold it on ebay.
