It seems that in every transcription of the lyrics to M Ward's "Helicopter" there's a conspicuous comma between the words "Tom" and "violence", but I'm pretty sure Ward meant the line I quoted as a reference to the SY song, at least partially. He did cover the tune, in fact, on Rodriguez's Swing Like a Metronome, but in a 2005 interview he said that album "wasn't very good".
