How do people live in cities with lots of gangs?

It is scary that people are asked to kill someone to prove their allegiance.

its a tricky game that has more politics then the whitehouse. and it is everywhere, though Los Angeles is definitely the apex of gang activity in the United States. Shit we export our street gangs internationally! but for most suburban white families, gang violence is for rap songs and the tv. if you dont get out of your car (i dont even have one, take the bus, have to walk some neighborhoods by default) and walk around some of these places it really will never affect you. but empathy is truth. these are mostly insecure and hopeless youth, who are just reacting out of the desperation our modern life.
