It takes 15 minutes; they do it all outside the body now, and the holes are so tiny that they don't even have to stitch you up.
It's really not all that bad. I watched them do mine; it was pretty interesting.
You definitely can't do any heavy lifting for a week or two afterward, but it's not all that agonizing.
