oh yeah, that is the problem. it needs fixing. just make sure it's not the cable, that the cable works ok without wiggling. in other places. try also with different cables to be sure it's not *that* cable. cables crap out like that.

if you don't want them to mess with it, and you can spend a little $, you could buy a firewire interface instead, which would allow you multiple mics and the use of multitrack audio software...

i wouldn't recommend you try to open up the laptop yourself though, those can be tricky & hard to put back together, and void your warranty... it's a pity but yest it's a 50 cent piece of crap that it's runing a $2000 computer.

the firewire interface would be better than your audio card though, i think.
