There's always been a problem (in the British press at least) with bands that have black humour in them. The Smiths are a case in point. Very funny, lots of self-deprecating humour, but it doesn't add up to miserable. I can't believe it took me until last year to realise that Bauhaus aren't a terrible goth band, and in fact goth isn't necessarily a bad thing (it's the fans that are the problem...). Humour in music, for the press, seems to be about "HEY HEY!!!! WACKY WACKY WACKY!!!!!" rather than actually being funny. Actual comedy music is very difficult. I have a new thread brewing...
