Maybe the SY fans you speak of are radio SY fans ,not us real in luv, hardcore fans that own every album, and have worshipped their music scince back in the day.
Radio SY fans= kids that here the radio song from a new album,memorize the words, go to the mall and buy the new album and the matching T-sirt,get tickets to the show and annoy the fuck out of the real fans.
