No, that's bonkers and stupid. Now, if we're talking high resolution lossless files, online stores like HDtracks sometimes charge more than the cost of the CD version on, say, Amazon. But on the other hand there's Bandcamp, where you get a neat-o physical/download/stream combo without even asking for it.

Usually FLAC/WAVs cost a bit more than mp3s - the reason in the beginning was that a bigger slice of the store's bandwith was needed to deliver big files to the buyer. That doesn't really hold now; again, on Bandcamp you get all the formats you want and even those you don't want. Bandcamp rules!
