The problem with the lib dems is they tend to try and occupy any ground that that the two main parties seem to neglect and which offers a large pool of potential votes, Right now it's the Remain voters who want a 2nd referendum, a few years ago they were trying to attract students by offering to abolish tuition fees, only to then form a coalition with the Tories and
raised them. They have a real credibility problem and although they did pick up a lot of votes in the EU election, I think a lot of people still see them as quite cynical opportunists with no real core set of beliefs. Right now they feel like a bit of a New Labour tribute act, ten years ago they were the Left wing alternative to New Labour.
