I'm absurdly happy - after fighting with the restaurant Izakaya downstairs for months to fix the horrendous noise from their exhaust motor that runs 14 hours a day outside our apt windows without result, I went down with a can of WD40 and in 2 seconds stopped the shattering metal on metal shrieking. They've had repair people working on the stupid motor repeatedly who couldn't figure this out. An electric buzzing sound continues but I have to run my fan anyway and that covers the buzzing.
I'm just stunned I've had to put up with this harassment for months and all that was needed was a little lube. I think there is a strong lesson here.
