If you follow a professional sports team--and they are based reasonably close to where you live--you know that with rare exceptions, they will have a schedule every season which will include a good number of
home games and that you will be able to see at least one or two.

However, if you are enthusiastic about bands that tour on a national or international level, your very favorite ones: (1) may not tour at all in any given year; (2) might tour and not have a gig anywhere near where you live; (3) may tour and have a gig in your town or reasonably close by but it's on a day when it is impossible for you to attend due to work, family, etc. (4) might break up--sports teams have been known to disband or move far away to another city but with far less frequency.

Just the way things are, I suppose.
