Four South African print journalists were accredited to cover this World Cup, out of a media contingent of some 10,000. Given that South Africa are supposed to be hosting the next World Cup in 2010, you would think they would be taking a little more interest in events in Germany. FIFA insiders are said to be genuinely concerned by the lack of progress being made by the South African 2010 organising committee. Moving the tournament away from South Africa, in the same way that Colombia gave way to Mexico in 1986, has not been ruled out. More likely is that FIFA will have to step in and run the whole operation themselves.
