Without the violent dead note chords Jonny plays, there's nothing to ground the melodrama of the rest of the song. That melodrama is taken to ridiculous heights with the chorus but without the sense of isolation that a solo voice imparts.

As for the movie, I changed my mind when I found out that Aaron Sorkin wrote it.
