You gonna lie to your kids about Santa someday?

Like your parents lied to you?

king_buzzo 12.19.2006 03:31 PM

santa is a lie. its a way of parents making children to be good.

cryptowonderdruginvogue 12.19.2006 03:33 PM

Yes

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 12.19.2006 03:36 PM

No, I wasn't traumatized. I sort of knew from quite an early age, but I kept believing their lies to hang on to it. But I always sort of knew Santa wasn't real.

I kind of hung on to it so I could ask Santa for presents and I could also ask my parents for presents.

edit: Porkmarras- I mean when you have children (I guess if you adopt), when it comes Christmas time (if you celebrate Christmas) are you going to tell them about a big jolly fat man that gives toys to good children?

EMMAh 12.19.2006 03:44 PM

Nope, I'm going to tell them right from the beginning that there's no such this as the fat man in red.
I'm going to celebrate Christmas but it's not exactly going to be "Christmas" cause I don't believe in God or any of that crap. It'll be my own little holiday. That's right.

Yeah it is, but I refuse to let my kid grow up without knowing that Jesus was really just a normal guy raised by a bunch of wackjobs to believe he was the son of God. If I'm going to go about raising my kid that way, why would I also go through all the trouble of celebrating Christmas and Santa when they're directly linked to God?
I think of something clever instead, I've got a couple years time anyway :o

Me neither really. It's a sacrifice I'm willing to make though.

mmh...

I'll let my kids believe in the wonders of Santa. To do otherwise is to rob them of a beautiful innocence that all kids deserve. You either 'lie' to your kids about Santa, or you rob them of innocence at an early age. The latter is worse. You people weren't all that scarred from your parents letting you believe Santa was real, were you? I'm glad my parents let me believe.

Christmas had and still has nothing to do with religion to me.

Savage Clone 12.19.2006 04:53 PM

I can't remember ever really believing in Santa. My first memories of questioning the whole thing are from age 5. It's not as gigantic of a lie as the one about the magical man in the clouds who will watch over your deeds for your entire life though.

I'm not having kids anyway, so I suppose my opinion on this matters very little, but if I did, I doubt I would go along with this charade.

No I wasn't really scarred. But I could see that some children may trust their parents less due to it. I'm afraid they might not heed my warnings that "heroin and promiscuous unsafe sex is bad for you" or take all of the philosophy that I teach them to be utter bullshit that they should never consider or something because of one huge lie.

I figure this will probably be the last year Kellian will believe. Her and Evan though are totally excited about the 'magic' of it. They even plan to put special cookies and milk out for Santa and some carrots for the reindeers. Rudolph and the rest of the reindeers do not like cookies, they are not good for them- at least that is what Kellian tells me. :)

Awwww, that's cute.

They'll just take up heroin and fucking at an earlier age 'cause they were stripped of their childhood innocence.

compulsive diarrhea, jico 12.19.2006 05:20 PM

20 years from now, the ice in the poles will be melted and reindeers will be extinct, so...

ha.
ha.

Inhuman 12.19.2006 05:22 PM

I think I'll make my own story up.

I'm going to tell my kids that a giant possum warps into people's houses and magically makes presents appear. I will then explain to them how the whole "santa" story is a fake, but not to let other people know, or he/she will not get presents from the Christmas possum.

It will be genuis, the kid will think he knows more than the rest of the world and that others are in denial of the truth by having the whole "santa" story. Plus they'll probably like the fact that it's a possum as oppose to an obese guy that wears red.

Trasher02 12.19.2006 05:24 PM

I'd lie. I mean it's a fun lie and it makes the kids happy.
I first found out he wasn't real when I was pissed because my grandparents gave me some crappy presents and I was pissed cause I thought that santa brought these gifts. "Stupid santa I asked for a goddamn hotwheel car not a sweater!"
