Bytor's Album Of The Week - 2013

I attempted this last year, had moments of success and moments of complete failure (sometimes life gets in the way).

My goal for this thread is to mention one or two albums each week that might slip through the cracks......not necessarily albums that will end up on everyone's "best of 2013" list at the end of the year.

I will try to include a sound clip, some sort of a review and the labels website where the release can be purchased.

Anyone fill free to bring attention to any new / re-release in 2013......it's what this thread is for!

Starting off 2013 with something a little odd and different. 'Petra Goes To The Movies' was released yesterday: January 22, 2013

Check out her video for the movie: Psycho http://youtu.be/FIl7CkgYYMM

Released today (February 12, 2013) and available in the U.S. for only $8

Guillermo Gregorio - Bb clarinet, alto clarinet

multiverse

Just as the title suggests, this release encompasses more than the simple duo of clarinet and piano. Entangled multiplicity is the guiding force between each musician and piece. Unfolding each movement from moments of spontaneous symmetry.

just listened to this, reminded me a lot of meredith monk

not nearly as avant-garde, but influenced by her

This caught my attention due to the following: average track length of 12 minutes and it's on Darla. I have a good friend who would say this is PERFECT driving music......it's beautifull sounding in a Underworld sort of way......think SYRFox would approve!

I would definitely approve anything bvdub!

Wow - last week passed by so quick I forgot to update......so I will make up for it by posting about an album that isn't even due out until March 22, 2013.

Besides just loving the cover, this Jesus & Mary Chain meets garage sound really works well.

"Side A of this LP is only guitar, while side B is only bass. All of it sublime, melting amps and speakers.Too much."

rotor plus - dust (March 11)

"The album begins with a crackling noise that even sounds like dust: the dust of distant galaxies, the dust of dreams decayed, the dust of discarded efforts: the half-life of sound being reached. This fire-like crackle leads to a shocking entry of strings, a requiem of sorts for all that has gone before. Even the sub-track titles contribute a sense of finality: “the absence of geometry”, “the memory of the photo long since lost”, “the last physical object”. There’s a strong chance that this will be the last physical object from rotor plus, which would be a shame, as this trilogy remains a document out of sync with time. We’re used to listening to music to hear what comes next, and rotor plus has been ahead of its time throughout its journey."
