Vote now; it's important!

The semicolon; I use it all the damn time.

See how I did that?
Oh yes.

Yes, I noticed straight away (more or less). Well done, Savage (I quite like them too).

But not as much as brackets (which come under 'something else in this poll).

Savage Clone 04.10.2006 04:52 PM

Parentheses are a close second.

Glice 04.10.2006 04:53 PM

I like exclamation marks, but they're way to overused. The semi-colon is more classy; rarely do any but the most refined and intelligent people who are more attractive sexually use it. It indicates a multitude of things; it has multiple purposes; yes, it can be mis-used, but you'd forgive such a refined soul for its mis-use. Other punctuation marks are merely by-products of a correct, or over zealous, grammar. The semi-colon is the choice of the Gods.

Aha! PAranthesis, quite right! I use 'brackets' as a general term for the colection, which is rather remiss of me I know. I love using brackets (and especially like using double brackets [like here] for some reason).

noumenal 04.10.2006 04:57 PM

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

semi-colon!

Hip Priest 04.10.2006 04:59 PM

Semi-colon's in a surprise early lead, I see.

Surprised at the lack of scoring by the exclamation mark, considering it's popularity in terms of usage.

I can't decide. I need to think about it.

!@#$%! 04.10.2006 05:03 PM

baah baah!! the dash was emily dickinson's punctuation mark of choice for a reason-- not sure which one!-- but anyway-- what am i mumbling about? who took my coffee?

Normally that's forgivable, but in a thread about punctuation? For shame.

I like the semicolon - it's suggestive, allusive, a sultry promise of verbal delicacies.

But perhaps periods don't receive their proper due. They're decisive, definitive, the embodiment of syntactical authority. The semicolon is the pair of handcuffs in language's orgasmic frenzy; the period, however, is the almighty whip.

Edit: "syntactical" - I may have made that word up. I'm real tired like.

Glice 04.10.2006 05:04 PM

Oh, and you forgot ellipses...

truncated 04.10.2006 05:12 PM

I wasn't sure about ellipses - are they punctuation, or a device?

Fuck tha police!

noumenal 04.10.2006 05:16 PM

Lie face-down on the ground and put your hands behind your back!

!@#$%! 04.10.2006 05:17 PM

Noumenal is quite excitable today. Are we going to get to see some skin?
