Need Recommendations
I need recommendations for records that are both consistently heavy/layered and atmospheric... and in some vaguely conventional way, Beautiful.

Wow, a day ago I asked the same question at the Southern Lord board and received the same recommendation of Jesu's stuff. The posters there also mentioned:
Justin Broadrick's FINAL + Godflesh The Goslings ("hardly metal, though", according to Skrape) Blut Aus Nord Nadja Velvet Cacoon Angelic Process Wold Lurker of Chalice Burzum Filosofem Hvis Lyset Tarr Oss Ulver Okay, I never actually took the time to consider how many groups were recommended to me. Maybe I don't need any more now. |
FINAL's cool. Godflesh too, but of variable quality - Pick up the "In All Languages" compilation and work out from there.

Okay, but what's that picture of? |
i'm gonna recommend one of my Australian favourite's
www.myspace.com/greydaturas Instrumental three-piece Somewhere between Sonic Youth, Dead C, My Bloody Valentine and doom-y droney stuff like Boris (absolutego style), Electric Wizard, Sleep, Grails. Keeping it in the southern hemisphere Cambell Kneale's projects Black Boned Angel and Birchville Cat Motel are great. |

Something like MBV's "Loomer" from LOVELESS would be cool. I guess what I don't want are the typical growling vocals. Instrumental groups would be cool. Maybe something slow and droney; there's a sub-genre for this, right? I just want something I can play loud and get lost in without having to worry about people thinking I'm some kind of devil worshipper. Yeah, I'm a pussy. Thanks; now I'm off to bed. |
I Recommend the new Isis+Aereogramme split - In the Fishtank 14 or the latest Jesu EP - Silver. Both are really atmospheric.

I like the oceanic stuff. Jesu are great, but I don't like Isis. The music's nice. Not keen on the voice. Maybe they should become an instrumental band. That's just my opinion. |
I liked the first two Isis albums but the new one is really really boring..
|
i second nadja; also, check out growing.

i know what you mean about the voice, but Craig B from Aereogramme mainly sings on this record. I personally dont think they should become instrumental though, theres too many bands doing that right now, like red sparrows, pelican etc. |
toko check the new isis, singing is more bearable (when not melodic, aurgh!)and music is simply amazing.
|
I don't mind when singers grunt, but it gets monotonous, if they do it throughout the whole album without changing their voices.
I'll give Isis another try though... |
he grunts less and sings more on "the absence of truth"..4th track is amazing.
|
people who can't take isis' aaron turner growl = pussies
