Dudes...

Dugald MacKenzie (r.i.p.) of Sick Things and the first couple of Venom P. Stinger albums

Then there's Mr. Vom!!! Gotta love his novocaine-mouth stylings!

Joe from Infest was the best at the sandwich-in-mouth style in hardcore...better, I think, than John Brannon of Negative Approach.

Al from US Maple is funny.

Ladies...

Eva, formerly of the band Alarmist, a sometimes Gang Wizard and Vholtz collaborator, and now a really unique headtrip psych experimenter under the name Inca Ore. Her solo stuff is mostly a'capella, and it's awesome!

Marion from the Dogfaced Hermans (and sometimes The Ex) is very powerful.

Jenny from Erase Errata is great.

Yuki from the Japanese hardcore bands Sink and Mass Genocide was mesmerizing when I saw her live...just unleashing the gnarliest banshee wail while rotating her long shiny hair like a propeller blade.

Flen flyys 04.07.2006 12:41 AM

Kristin Hersh
Mark Lanegan
PJ Harvey
Kurt Cobain

Radioactive Poltergeist 04.07.2006 03:57 AM

Ian Curtis and John Darnielle

Katy 04.07.2006 04:14 AM

Iggy.

Hip Priest 04.07.2006 04:37 AM

My favourite would be Jim Reid from the Jesus and Mary Chain, I think.

Others competing for a top five place: Kim Gordon, Mark E Smith, Thurston Moore, Mary Mary (Gaye Bykers on Acid), Carl McCoy (Fields of the Nephilim), John Fogerty.

If it were based puely on live perfomance, it would be Thurston, who is excellent on stage.

I can vouch for that. :)

FruitLoop 04.07.2006 05:05 AM

Bob Dylan
Neil Young
Tom Petty

...just joking ;)

I'll vouch for Kurt Cobain

johnnywinternoshow 04.07.2006 07:17 AM

whats wrong with neil young?! And I like the way dylan 'sings' too, like mark e smith it's the unusual approach that makes it interesting

FruitLoop 04.07.2006 09:08 AM

There is nothing wrong with neil young, but some of his early stuff had songs that were not really in his range. I've got After the Goldrush, and some songs send chills down my spine for the wrong reasons.

Unusual approaches to rock signing would be perhaps more the likes of Freddy Mercury or Meat Loaf, bridging together opera, broadway musicals, and rock. Just my two øre...

Toxa 04.07.2006 09:11 AM

Page Hamilton
Perry Farell

and Sonics of course :)

supersonicsix 04.07.2006 09:19 AM

jimi hendrix (if that counts as rock, i think so)
jim morrison
the guy from wolfmother
