word.

punk was about moving forward and stop idolizing the aging dinosaur rock bands of the 60's; it was also about ending the self-aggrandization that rock had stuck in the 70's, now they apply the same criteria to punk bands...the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Just because we know more than you.

well i still say its about finding missing links. sometimes an obvious starting point from which to begin looking just has to be established.

I wasnt refering to anyone in particular Androol.I watched Morrisey on tv last night and when Laurene Laverne asked him if punk was needed,he replied(sharply i'll add) that the reason punk wont happen again is because people ARE wondering when it will happen again. To that he added that people who lived in 1963 weren't wondering when punk was gonna happen. It was thrusted upon them.

punk was about lifting the barrier between artist and audience so they could look at themselves as equals.

now we have "punk" documentaries about "punk" legends and punk bands induced to the rock n' roll hall of fame.

Punk music is the easiest and savest music to play for any band. You can't get it wrong, and you don't need a sense of music.

Punk was culturally an important thing when it happened in 197.. (who cares). But let us now please forget about the whole thing.

Mundane. Mundaninty upon mundanity. Resistance has never been so sexy. Bollocks, self-defeatist bollocks with accidental good tunes here and there. This goes for the whole of punk.

Incidentally, the only people I know who believe in the 'punk rock dream' are people who were too young to be there. Everyone I know from the generation that started punk, and the generation before, sees it as a marginal thing created by NME journalists. The same is true for Grunge, Madchester and any other so-called movement one could care to name.

"I, cynic, name thy resistance a philistine's cloak".

there is only ONE THING "punk" music was about

that anyone, with a bare minimum of "talent" could make interesting and fun music.

THAT IS IT.

punk WAS a reaction to dinosaur bands, and it was a rejection of standard mores, but punk was not ABOUT that. it was about 4 gutterpunks playing rock n roll with barely enough "skills" to tune their instruments.

and that being said

PUNK'S NOT DEAD

Cantankerous 08.21.2006 03:45 PM

i created it.
