asp's classic albums # 61: codeine - frigid stars
![]() CODEINE "FRIGID STARS" 1991, Sub Pop I first heard this one on Christmas a few years ago, at around 3 in the morning, in a shivering cold basement, while fucked up on .. uhm .. codeine. It was the perfect soundtrack. Cheesey.. but true. A depressing, sloooooooow, dark album easily as good as anything .. oh I dunno... let's say it's easily as good as anything Low produced. This album is one I don't dig out that often nowadays but every time I come back to it, it feels like a depressing friend of mine who I try to visit to cheer up every now and then. What the fuck am I talking about. http://sharebee.com/81324be3 |

EX-ceptional.
got a point there.
don't listen to it often but its an amazing album |
Listened to it on a stormy night on a cruise. Man it was so cool. I'm yet to hear Low do better than this. White Birch is fantastic, too.
i love this!!!
i don't think of them as in the same vein as low, i think of them as a slightly darker galaxie 500 (although not as good). |
Yeah, you're right actually. Galaxie 500 are amazing.
I love this album, in moderation. 3 Angels is fucking amazing. Listened to it like 10 times on a plane to New Zealand or someplace.
Two weeks ago I had my wisdom teeth removed and I was prescribed codeine so I listened the shit out of The White Birch while in my delirious opiate haze. Haven't heard this LP.
