Naxos

More praise for this label. Cheap as chips recordings from former Easter-bloc countries at low low rates? Yes please!

MellySingsDoom 08.24.2008 07:09 PM

Their release of Gorecki's 3rd Symphony is amazing!

Glice 08.24.2008 07:09 PM

No.

Glice 08.24.2008 07:10 PM

That is to say, no.

Glice 08.24.2008 07:10 PM

Gorecki is turd, absolute turd. Is that the Miserere? Turd.

Ner ner ner I like Gorecki ner ner ner :p

Major Melly deficit -I like to be bummed to the sounds of Whitehouse :o

I'll get me coat then ,eh?

Glice 08.24.2008 07:23 PM

Bumming to Whitehouse is fine - we've all been there. But Gorecki is just some faux-early, pseudo-ecclesiastical nonsense. Utter piffle, if you ask me. Which, obviously, you didn't, which is why I'm telling you.

MellySingsDoom 08.24.2008 07:31 PM

Which you are. You'll have to remind me though - I forget these things too easily. Dur....

I thought this thread said Nachos, and I'm kind of disappointed.

I actually got really annoyed when the Naxos stuff went from being £4.99 to £5.99. That extra pound fucks with my maths. The old two Satie CDs for a tenner was a nobrainer, but once you're talking about £12 then you start making decisions like, do I really want to break into a twenty for two CDs I'll nodoubt only ever listen to half of, once.

The stuff is generally really good though. the only substandard Naxos CD I've ever had was a Gershwin one. That was bloody awful.

Used Naxosesesses are the way to go. Them things cost about 1/10th of a half of a half of a 10th of a moldy aids infested yen.

fugazifan 08.25.2008 02:17 AM

since i study music, we have acsees to their onlince data base-ie i can listen to all of their catologue for free...
love naxos

sarramkrop 08.25.2008 05:10 AM

Great label. So many people I had never heard of I've disocvered through their output, samplers etc.

Glice 08.25.2008 02:48 PM

A lot of people poo-poo Naxos. That annoys me a lot. Because classical music is intimidating enough without suggesting that 'quality' means paying £20+ for a CD that you'll only listen to once. Admittedly, there are some ropey-ish recordings (this is a relative thing, obviously) but their Eastern-European orchestras are pretty consistently cock-on for anything east of Germany.

naxos fucking rules. i owe them my first encounter w/ janacek, among other things.

but ripping their cds from someone who owns an extensive library is even cheaper.

I have nothing else to say, thanks.

Further to my earlier answer, I now realise I have at least five Naxos CDs (including Janacek, Ligeti and Charles Ives).

I never really acknowledged that I was buying a particular label, I just wanted a particular piece of music at a good price.
