Will someone listen to my teaser track and tell me if it's okay?

So I downloaded fruityloops and I think I've got the hang of it, could someone tell me how it sounds?

Be as harsh as you want and if you like it, then add the myspace or something.

Thanks.

I don't like that electronic piece at all, but the acoustic guitar one sounds pretty fine

Derek 07.02.2008 12:42 PM

Well I was asking specifically about the electronic piece, thanks anyway.

greedrex 07.02.2008 12:50 PM

the elctronic piece sounds either like Aphex on prozac or like 70's Eno on coke.
the acoutsic gtr piece sounds nice to me and kind of Fahey-like.

stick to the acoustic!!!!!

Derek 07.02.2008 01:07 PM

Well that sample on the myspace is my first attempt at fruityloops so I want to attempt and get better at it and shit. The drum sounds are actually derived from Kraftwerk beats haha.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 07.02.2008 01:53 PM

Considering it's your first attempt, I'd say it's pretty good. I'm still yet to figure it out.

Here's a friend of mines profile, who uses fruity loops. Really great stuff.

Listen to spirits and concords.

sorry dude the electro piece sounds like a ring tone in fact my girl friend yelled out to me while i was playing it "is that my phone?"... i think the piece has potential but it just sounds so incredibly thin, maybe if it was an intro to something that kicked in with some nice tasty beats and dirty samples and synths.

if you can find a copy of reason use that as fruity loops is hmmmm let's say an average piece of software.

max 07.02.2008 08:41 PM

dare i say that FL is actually very flexible and you can tweak it to the maximum. you won't believe the amount of shit i've been doing since 2002 with the same old 3.5.6 version. trust me - there's a learning curve but you can do whatever you want when you know how to use it.

atsonicpark 07.02.2008 08:57 PM

Good first effort. I use fruity sparingly... I'll take some samples from fruity and fuck with them in adobe audition or something... the worst thing in the world is when you can tell someone obviously used fruity to make stuff.

Still, for the first time you've ever done anything electronically, it's not bad at all.

Cantankerous 07.02.2008 09:29 PM

it's not my style, if you ask me it sounds like it belongs at the beginning of a software program like the sims or something, or on a debt management infomercial but you didn't do bad for a first try.

Death & the Maiden 07.03.2008 01:29 AM

It sounds like something from the Napoleon Dynamite movie. It does sound a blit like a ringtone, and it probably is too "thin".

Derek 07.03.2008 06:00 AM

okay thanks guys!

Derek 07.03.2008 07:13 AM

Okay, I think I'll keep the beats but like, include guitars and stuff.

It could be interesting.

pbradley 07.03.2008 07:21 AM

I remember trying to use fruity loops a couple years back. But I got bored with the limited options and ended up making shit noise with the effects.

ZEROpumpkins 07.03.2008 07:33 AM

I remember when I first got FL in year 7. I blew at it, using default samples and instruments. But once you get some decent drum samples etc and some kick ass vsts, you can do so much more. Just keep it up.

Limited? You can do anything with it -- ANYTHING!

I heard that Kyle Minogue songs are made in Fruity Loops.

ZEROpumpkins 07.04.2008 01:49 AM

I'm sick of FL studio getting shit about not being a "professional" DAW. It can do everything all the others do for a fraction of the price without being a difficult program at all. And, unlike Reason, you don't have to use ReWrire everytime you need to use a VST plugin.

atsonicpark 07.04.2008 03:16 AM

I seriously can't think of a single thing you can't do with Fruity Loops and Adobe Audition (or Cakewalk or even Soundforge if you're feeling saucy) together.

Unlimited amounts of beats to slice (samples), vst plugins, vst synths, etc... it blows my mind, the sky's the limit...

ZEROpumpkins 07.04.2008 03:30 AM

Exactly. And it's far easier to use than Cubase and Logic

SYRFox 07.04.2008 03:40 AM

You can do anything.
