SY & Religion/Spirituality
I've been listening to the band for well over 10 years, and this is a question that has popped up again and again with each new album that is released--what are the various member's thoughts and practices when it comes to a belief system? Several song titles, or lyrics point in the direction of some sort of a belief but I've never really seen it breached in interview or fully in a song. I think "Do You Believe In Rapture" is probably the closest I've heard to a blatant reference.

Thurston grew up Catholic and has professed in interviews to a belief in
a higher power. Kim is an avowed atheist. Lee and Steve are smart enough to not discuss religion in interviews. |
Thurston was quite interested in Buddhism at one point, wasn't he? Dunno if he still is.
|
Steve represents the Amalgamated Worship Societies of Steve Shelley, or at least did, when he talked about it in a '96 interview. As far as I know Thurston and Kim are now practicing Scientologists, if you've been following the close friendship between them and the other tabloid darlings Posh and Becks.. Lee I would assume is Catholic because he's got that colour in him, hasn't he?

it appears i must douse several more fuckers in holy water before spritzing
Danny again. pity. |
It's alright, I'll just go to the cathedral tomorrow and dunk my head into the font..

Danny Himself: As far as I know Thurston and Kim are now practicing Scientologists.

No, this is not true at all, I was telling lies. |

I actually have read this or heard it somewhere. I think it was in accordance with the Sister album and Schizophrenia. The songs are inspired by Valis by Dick, but I somehow remember Thurston discussing his upbringing. |
