philip k dick biopic
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0840404/
They are making a PKD biopic, starring Paul Giamatti as Phil. Also i was watching one of the new episodes of scrubs and carla made this weird joke about "some hollywood guy and the dead sciene fiction author he worships". is this some sort of pkd reference |
I would say scientology.
|
ah.
im sure this biopic will gloss over the freaky side and make pkd into some american hero type bullshit like they did with that other famous schizo, john nash, who doesnt quite look as handsome as russel crowe |
Yeah, I have not really read that many books by him.
|
you can download a torrent of all his books in txt file format and its only like 27mb.
|
Nah, I'll get them from the library.
|
i got a first edition copy of LIES INC from the library, still havent given it back. its a different version of the book "The Unteleported Man". I don't think this edition is available anymore, and i certainly can't find it on any of the pkd book torrents out there. Does anyone reckon its worth scanning and torrenting? How would i go about that?
|
I'd personally appreciate that, but I have no idea how to go about what you propose.
I wonder... how will the hollywoodization of PKD come into effect THIS time?! Interestingly, he has sooo many stories that'd be easy to do as a tiny/no budget film. The Pre-Persons being a great example. Nothing high-tech or futuristic. Most could be shot in present day, as the stories have so little description, just dialogue and actions! |
take the fucking hollywood out of pkd i say. the only good thing they did for him was blade runner, and still that was basically a fictional meditation on the book it was hardly a direct adaptation.
i just know there's going to be some sort of american hero morality bullshit clause in this biopic but itll be worth a download. yr right about the tiny/no budget thing, but i reckon you could do him justice if you made a tv series were each episode dealt with one of his short stories. like a 10 episode mini series adapted by proper pkd fans and not all commercialized and shit, it would get a lot of ratings i think. there's definitly a tv market for GOOD non shitty action hero cliche sci fi that people would watch again and again. the bbc could do it. |
That's what I was thinking. A lot of his stories would work pretty well on an 'Outer Limits' format of show. But hopefully not as cheesy.
|
if you look at people's viewing habits, shows of the shittiest quality get high ratings but no repeat viewing. while there's episodes of the simpsons from 1996 that people have seen over 50's times and will still watch. if you put together a quality series of pkd adaptions they'd be really popular i reckon, and i doubt they'd cost that much to do. but fuck will that ever happen, instead we get the fucking sci fi channel and its daily doses of shit.
