Does anybody know any particularly famous names of this wonderful music?

My favorites though (and not on that list) are De Amsterdam Klezmer Band, Rabbinical School Dropouts, and Full Metal Klezmer. Tzadik releases lots of really great klezmer artists..

daniel zamir is cool. when i was little i went to lots of klezmer shows. i think theres much more of it in the state nd europe than in israel, theres not muh exposre to it here.heres a link that i found yesterday to DL some klezmer from a blog

I only have a few compilations and some Zamir stuff (co-incidentally enough). It's one of those genres, like a lot of 'folk' stuff, that it's infinitely preferable to see live than on record. Unlike a lot of 'folk' stuff, anywhere with a moderate Jewish/ Eastern-European population should put on a night or two relatively frequently. I find the local Polish clubs (in most cities, it seems) are good for this and related musics.
