Sonic Youth to Play Battery Park July 4th w/ The Feelies!

"Friday, July 4, 3:30pm
Sonic Youth came on the music scene in the early '80s and continues to be a major force in the indie genre today. Known to "redefine what rock guitar could do," they have created a new sonic landscape rich in alternate sounds. Bring a blanket and come Downtown to enjoy the hits that have earned them a dedicated decades-long following. The Feelies will reunite to open.
Tickets are required and space is limited. FREE."

Excellent!

Battery Park, it's on the southern tip of Manhattan if you're not familiar.

the Malkmus show there last year or the year before was a disaster, the city's obsession with searching everyone made a bunch of people miss the set after waiting on line for a long time. I know some people listened outside the prisoned area and heard the music fine. I just can't get excited about outdoor shows in NYC because they are so culturally related to the experience of the prisons.

Apparently the tickets will be available through the River to River website if it's anything like last year and then picked up day of the show.

I was going to do a summer program at Brown University. But now I'm not going to because then I would be in Providence on the fourth of July. In conclusion, Sonic Youth is more important than my education.

Does anyone know when tickets will be available?

also, how is the battery park area/stage? i've never been there...

I wonder how the ticket distribution will be handled. These 4th of July shows, they have some sort of RSVP system I think, so better be careful not to get shut out of tickets.

I saw a show there last year, it was loud but muddy. Folding chairs on the floor too, I hope they don't do that for this show though.

I saw Thurston there with Yoko Ono and a DJ about 7 or 8 years ago. I really liked the space. Spread out a sheet on the grass and chilled out. Assuming it hasn't changed, I would say this is what a concert in the park should be, unlike the astroturf abomination at Central Park Summerstage.
