what band/ music do you listen to....

when you're feeling down or depressed?

i've been really fucking depressed lately(i'm not saying this to get kind words) and i've been listening to a lot of the wipers and black flag.

i never really listened to the wipers when i have been down in the past but i find that greg sage's lyrics kind of fit my current situation. of course i put on black flag. basically the second side of damaged is how i feel right now. anyway, black flag has always got me through tough times in the past. some people turn to drugs and alcohol, but i turn to the flag.

i just started reading get in the van for the 1000000000000000 time today too.

so what do you listen to when you feel depressed?

batreleaser 03.24.2008 10:03 PM

ummm usually the same stuff i wud always listen too...

i listened to the wipers all day today though, one of my faves.

anyways, van morrisons astral weeks is a really good "im depressed and i wana drink along" kinda record

I was trying to think of what it was that I listened to all the time when I was sad, but I can't remember what it was.

I was thinking about "i" by the Magnetic Fields, but that wasn't the one I was trying to remember.

currently nothing, sometimes different music, it varies from sadness to sadness. not all sorrow is the same.

uhler 03.25.2008 12:25 AM

i forgot to mention rites of spring is another one that i put on. guy's lyrics are so amazing.

For me, The Wedding Present's George Best, the Circle Jerks' Group Sex and The Germs' M.I.A. have made me feel better when I've been depressed. The Cure (the pop songs on the singles compilations) and The Smiths are good as well, even though they are kind of melancholy and sad.

Merzbow while I vomit and piss on myself.

I haven't been depressed in about a year now so I haven't given it much thought. EVOL was a staple, though, I remember that.

jimbrim 03.25.2008 08:50 AM

i would say i listen to bands like low, galaxie 500, RHP when i'm feeling down, but i listen to them all the time.

i've been really depressed lately (hence my sad songs thread), and i've been listening to a lot of loren mazzacane connors, hisato higuchi, jozef van wissem, james blackshaw, and steffen basho-junghans.

gualbert 03.25.2008 09:02 AM

Early Swans , Whitehouse or Blackhouse

StevOK 03.25.2008 10:23 AM

I just remembered that I listen to My Bloody Valentine's 1988 John Peel session when I get really sad. Doesn't happen very much at all anymore. I'm pretty happy these days...oh that reminds me, try "Everybody's Happy Nowadays" by the Buzzcocks.

atsonicpark 03.25.2008 10:28 AM

Beefheart and Sun City Girls, because they always makes me smile and/or laugh.

batreleaser 03.25.2008 10:55 AM

silence is always nice when im a miserable wreck, especially as you send yourself into an opiate and alcohol induced apathetic coma

M_emmett 03.29.2008 07:18 AM

_slavo_ 03.31.2008 02:59 AM

I've been really down lately and all I've been listening to was soothing stuff in the likes of Rameses III, Gareth Hardwick, James Blackshaw and Shuttle 358.

I can't listen to depressing music when down. So I would suggest some pop, or something uplifting.
