Asteroid to Hit Mars?
 

Well, its two moons are captured asteroids, and Mars is near the asteroid belt.

I was going to say there goes the plan for terraforming the planet for Total Recal-esque colonization, however then I read the object is similar to what happened in Siberia in 1908, so alas, the plan continues, and it swallows over ONE BILLION US DOLLARS A YEAR! you know, we could be spending those resources reterraforming our own planet...

Apparantly, the NASA program did not document its progress, they just built rockets without keeping the notes from the research which built them in the first place! So 50 plus billion dollars (1960s money people!) later they got no new knowledge or information from the research program. Today, NASA has to go to salvage and surplus yards finding old Apollo equipment and backtracking through it to figure out how it works, and what scientific principles it demonstrates. they have to relearn all of the science which built the program. again, what a waste! how could you build billions of dollars worth of space equipment, and then not take notes on what it all means?

In other words, we went to the moon, but we can't seem to remember how to get there....

listen, I am not entirely anti-NASA, if they want to spend billions of dollars a year that is fine. but lets be honest and transparent about things, One billion US$ per year on a silly program to terraform mars is a waste of one billion US$ no matter how you slice it. NASA should spend money, but they should not just have a free ride. They have probably sunk over 10 Billion US$ into this Terraforming program, and for what? To convert Mars into a green planet while the earth becomes less and less inhabitable? it makes no sense to me thats all..
