Ever feel like being a drifter?

Hitchhiking and stowing away with no particular place to go. Sounds kind of romantic to me sometimes. You wouldn't have to put up with anyone's shit, you could just leave.

LifeDistortion 05.12.2006 06:27 PM

Yeah, but being forced to do shitty odd jobs won't be as fun as it sounds. Its hard to get a job staying in one neighborhood without having to find one in every goddamn town you come across just to make enough to survive till you get to the next town.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 05.12.2006 07:00 PM

Hmmm, maybe living off the land in the woods is more romantic.

i'd love to be a drifter, stopping in different places briefly from town to town, making some quick cash then moving on. very appealing to me.

Have you guys ever seen the B-movie the girl in lovers lane? It is my brother's favorite MST episode.

so where would you drift from and to?, im like to go to seattle and travel around north america from there, i'd also like to travel around the lake district in the uk as its really beautiful.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 05.13.2006 11:35 AM

I'm Bik Steuben. If you call me Big Stupid or mention the girl in the yellow frilly dress, I'll probably hit you.

As far as uprooting oneself and fleeing earthly obligations, I have done that. It's super fun, and very liberating. There are very few practical inconviences that are truly devastating. You get around them somehow.

I think I'd probably meander around the mississipi and the ohio river, maybe travel up to the great lakes area and go to New York. Then I'd probably make my way west starting in Louisiana and hitchhike through the southwest.

Well, I want to record an album this summer and overcome my fear of driving. I think I'll get a van one of these summers, schedule shows across the USA and just go and do a bunch of them and leave some time for some adventures too.

yeah, i need to learn to drive first too i guess. my dad met some deadheads at a grateful dead gig in the 70's and they just followed the band around everwhere, they didn't know them, they werent groupies, they just went to everygig they played. followed them all over the world.
i could do that.

h8kurdt 05.13.2006 01:07 PM

For which band though?

Oh by the way I got an elliot smith album.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 05.13.2006 01:10 PM

It would be fun to follow SY around I think.

h8kurdt 05.13.2006 01:12 PM

You'd have to be super rich to see them. Maybe earlier period would be better for them. Plus they changed their set more back then too. buuurrrnnnn

Savage Clone 05.13.2006 01:48 PM

Butthole Surfers had a following like that in the mid 80s.
Yay, LSD and penis surgery movies every night!

nomadicfollower 05.13.2006 01:58 PM

I've thought about it; my name might have been inspired by the thought. I just wouldn't know where to start, or what I'd do once I'd begun. I'd like to travel and meet alot of people, makes friends all over th U.S., then be able to crash at their house if I'm ever near (like Kerouac). The task of getting a job, especially one you only plan to work for a short time, could prove difficult.
But drifting is defintely something I'd like to do, maybe before college..

Funny post Savage Clone.
