Post yr clothing dilemma

Here's mine. My dear wife, knowing I've been wanting a corduroy blazer, went out and found one today, last one of its kind in the store. It's a great jacket, was on sale. But. It's a size too big. It's an XL and I'm an L. My dilemma: Swallow my pride and wear it, and feel a little buffoonish? Or ask to return it and hurt my wife's feelings?

From one standpoint, I know it seems like the first option is the kindest. But I'm really picky about the fit of my clothes., especially things like jackets and shirts. Big sizes bug me.

you're not going to hurt her feelings (surely) because it's too big. maybe YOU should have hurt feelings because she thought you could wear an XL! blazers need to fit. sale or no sale. TAKE IT BACK! better than having a jacket you'll never wear (or hate wearing)

I suppose alterations are out of the question?
But yeah, you don't want to look like some kind of shuffling hobo.

Yeah, I've made it clear enough, God knows, over the years how particular I am about the fit of my clothes. I don't even care much what kind they are, how expensive or fashionable or any of that. I don't even own much of what is usually considered the standard male wardrobe--x number of suits, dress shirts, etc. My wardrobe is very casual. But the fit has to be dead on, no matter what they are, or I feel uncomfortable.

Make a joke of it (my standard advice on all occasions). Ask her if she thinks you've put on weight.

size does matter

You could always try washing it at 60 degrees when she's not looking. Corduroy is cotton, so it should shrink at least 5%. I wouldn't tumble dry it though.

WARNING:
It could turn out disastrous if you don't have a clue about your washing machine and it's effects on certain fabrics.

i think some of my clothes have shrunk a lot, can they ever return to the normal size? thats my clothing dilemma.
