Tindersticks

One of those bands that haven't made a single daft record but never seem to be loved much, apart from writers and frustrated housewives into European cinema. Still, a great band possesed by sheer class. You like them, Sir?

I do madame. Tindersticks 2 particularly. I havent actually heard any more recent stuff apart from the singers solo album.

Torn Curtain 09.13.2007 06:09 PM

Yes. My favourite album is Curtains, probably because that's the first one I listened to.

sarramkrop 09.13.2007 06:18 PM

My favourite is the first one because that's the one that I've bought when it came out, soon after listening to 'Marbles' (great song) on the radio. Stuart Staples' solo record is good stuff too. I like the fact that they have always been one of those really reserved bands that carried on making records, not bothered by what was going around them much.

Green Magnesium 09.13.2007 11:15 PM

Their soundtrack for the film 'Trouble Every Day' is lovely.

the ikara cult 01.17.2008 04:48 PM

I am listening to Marbles right now and remembering why this band is wonderful in all ways.
the Working For The Man best of is the ideal Tindersticks album, especially if you get the dual CD version which has their exemplary covers of "Here" by Pavement and "Kathleen" by Townes Van Zandt.

Fucking love love love them. Second album edges it for me, but they're all beautiful. 'Travelling Light' with Carla Walkabout fucks me up every single time in a way that very few other songs can do...

Crumb's Crunchy Delights 01.18.2008 05:34 AM

Not bad for a Nick Cave tribute band.

i was in the rough trade shop the other day and they were playing the tindersticks, it was the first time i'd heard them in years. speaking of older ladies who like european cinema & the tindersticks, my mum used to like them when i played their records around the house.

No, I don't like them at all. Nor Stuart Staples solo. I almost fell asleep mid-way through his gig.

Well that's what A silver mt. Zion does to me (I saw them live and liked only one song) :D

sarramkrop 05.03.2008 09:40 AM

I find that Godspped You Black Emperor have that effect on me too.

Tindersticks are terrific

Keeping It Simple 11.03.2009 03:31 PM

The band never appealed to me.

FreshChops 11.04.2009 01:53 AM

I fancy them a ton! (I do have to say "fancy" when referring to them, right?)

I insist that "Sometimes it Hurts" belongs in the top 3 of the realm of all songs consisting of a male / female duet.

they are more often minimalists, and each plays their part in good taste. band with great chemistry.

they do "slow" like no one else I know. some of their stuff is soooo slow. it's not just about tempo, but it's their attack, they're sound is so thick and smooth... and heavy.

they did a great cover of Pavements "Here"

I've got a great live version of Dunk Tank... great song

Other Side of town, & Tiny Tears.... great ones too.

radarmaker 01.13.2010 07:18 PM

The new one's out there.

loubarret 01.14.2010 12:46 PM
